Proefrock - John W. Proefrock, 88 of 9 Fremont St., Tonawanda, died Thursday (March 9, 1978) at E. J. Meyer Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
A native of North Tonawanda, he had been a resident of the Tonawandas all his life and was the father of Mrs. Vera P. Fischle, who died in 1955. Mr. Proefrock had been employed at Downtown Merchant's Delivery for 40 years, retiring 17 years ago. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Laymen's League and was a former superintendent of the Sunday School. Survivors include his wife,Agatha (nee William); two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Frances) Kaufmann of Kenmore and Mrs. Howard (Vera) Wein of Tonawanda; two sisters, Mrs. Augusta Weyers of North Tonawanda and Mrs. Lucy Mentor of Nevada; three brothers, Edward of Syracuse and William and George Proefrock, both of North Tonawanda, and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Morgan and William Streets, Tonawanda, Friday and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and until 12:30 Sunday. Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. Paul W. Czamanske. Burial in Elmlawn Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to the Niagara Lutheran Home and the Lutheran Service Society.
