- Walter (Sulc) Schultz, age 94 of Lewiston, New York, was called home to God on November 24, 2024. Born in Niagara Falls on January 20, 1930, Walter was the son of the late Justin Joseph (Sulc) Schultz and Anna Teresa [Petrash] Krizan Schultz.
He graduated from La Salle Senior High School in 1948, and continued his studies at the University of Buffalo, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry in 1962 and his Master of Science Degree in Chemistry from Niagara University in 1973. Walter served in the US Military in the Air National Guard at the Niagara Falls Air Force Base, and was honorably discharged in 1952.
Walter was employed as an analytical chemist with E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company Niagara Plant, Electronics Materials Group where he eventually ran the Quality Assurance Chemistry 'wet lab' and retired after 44 years in 1993 e was honored by Du Pont for "Environmental Excellence" for 'Copper Process Waste Reduction' to eliminate the largest hazardous waste stream from EMG's copper manufacturing process.
Walter enjoyed bowling in many local leagues, and was an avid fan of local sports, as a long-time season ticket holder for the Buffalo Bills and attended countless local Niagara University and Canisius College basketball games; as well as many high school sporting events for his grandchildren and nephews. In addition, he was a prolific reader of a wide variety of topics and a 'perpetual student' including a keen interest in chess. Walter was very active at the former St. George's Roman Catholic Church, Niagara Falls, and served as a lector, sang in the choir, was a Trustee, and co-chaired the '125 Club" fund-raising efforts for the church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59-1/2 years, Patricia J. [Lauzonis], his twin son and daughter, Hon. Eric (Jennifer) Schultz, USIJ, and Maryanne (Christopher) Schultz-Barrick, PhD, his grandchildren, Justin Schultz, Lydia Schultz, and Eliana Barrick, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings Ferdinand "Fred" (Clara) Krizan, Anna (Bernard) Martin, Marya Krizan, Joseph Krizan, Jennie (Duane) Schmidli, Justine "Chris" (Ralph) Whitbeck, George Schultz, Josephine (Herman) Camp and Pauline "Polly" (James) McClellan. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
He always took interest in all of the activities of his immediate family and extended family and was supportive in any way he could. His memory will be cherished forever.
His family will be present on Friday from 3-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY. Everyone is invited to attend his mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in Walter’s name to the Fatima Shrine.
Entombment with Military Honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
