Mrs. Gertrude C. Damon, 59, of
1184 Tonawanda St., Town of Tonawanda,
proprietor of Gert's Superette,
died at her home yesterday
after a heart attack.
Dr. Harry Taylor, an Erie County
medical examiner, said the death
was due to natural causes after a
granddaughter found Mrs. Damon ill
at home. A police first aid squad
was called in an attempt to aid
her.
Born at Winter, Wis., she was the
former Gertrude C. Wittkopf. She
resided 11 years in the Town of
Tonawanda and operated a grocery
store in Tonawanda Street.
Survivors include a son, Gerald
C. Damon; a daughter, Mrs. John
Schwartzkopf, two sisters, Mrs. Ella
Thompson and Mrs. Harold Messier;
a brother, John Wittkopf; five grand
children and one great-grandchild.

Born in Wisconsin, she was a
resident of the Tonawandas for
the past 40 years.
Survived by a son, Gerald
Damon, and a daughter Mrs.
John (Dolores) Schwartzkopf,
both of North Tonawanda; two
sisters, Mrs. Ella Thompson of
Florida and Mrs. Anna Messler
of Colorado; a brother, John
Wittkopf of Florida; five
grandchildren and a great-
grandchild.
Friends may call from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. today at
Thompson Funeral Home, 911
Tonawanda St., Town of Tonawanda
where services will be
conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Rev. William Atkins will
officiate.
