PALM DESERT, CA — Giuseppe Pietrocarlo passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Odyssey Hospice in Palm Desert, California, at the age of 80. He was the son of the late Giulia (nee Masocco) and Antonio Pietrocarlo. He was born in Giuliano di Roma, Italy and at the age of 13 was apprenticed as a bricklayer in Genoa, Italy.
Originally he emigrated to Canada in October 1953 where he lived and worked in Niagara Falls, Ontario. There he worked as a bricklayer performing general construction. Eventually accompanied by his brothers they started a small contracting business of their own. During that time he met the late Delores S. Forgione, and they married in September 1960 in Niagara Falls, NY. In 1962 Giuseppe and Delores moved to Southern California for approximately two years. They returned to Western New York where they settled in Youngstown in 1966, and Giuseppe became a citizen that year as well. He worked as a bricklayer for various contractors, and then secured a position with the New York Power Authority in 1975 and was employed there until 1989, when he retired. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, hunting, traveling to California and visiting with friends and family.
He is survived by his two loving children, Joseph Robert (Cheryl) Pietrocarlo of Youngstown, NY and Carol Marie (George) Ferrara of Rancho Cucamonga, California; dear brother of Salvatore (late Lois) Pietrocarlo of Niagara Falls, NY, Armando (Luciana) Pietrocarlo of Niagara Falls, NY, Amalia (Armando) Leo of Niagara Falls, ON, Giovanni (Antonietta) Pietrocarlo of Palm Desert, CA, Vincenzo Pietrocarlo of Niagara Falls, ON and the late Maria (Giovanni) Bove of Niagara Falls, ON; also by many nieces and nephews and cousins.
The family will be present to receive friends Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the SPALLINO-AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, where prayers will be said Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernard Church, 218 Hinman St. Youngstown, NY at 10:00 AM. Family and friends invited.
