- Daniel H. Benjamin, Sr., a longtime resident of Niagara Falls, died on Tuesday July 26, 2016 at home. He was 70. He was born in Niagara Falls on August 8, 1945, the son of the late John R. and Mary Evelyn (Cushing) Benjamin. He attended local schools and was a graduate of the former Trott Vocational High School. In 1963, Dan began a long career with the State of New York Department of Transportation.
During the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, a service of which he was very proud. He was honorable discharged and went back to work for the state, retiring in 2000, after 39 years.
Dan was an avid NY Yankees fan and NASCAR Racing. His hobbies included restoring collectible vehicles, his pride being his 1934 Chevy Sedan. You could always find Dan looking for something to tinker with. He was a long standing member of the Free Wheelers.
He is survived by the love of his life of 48 years, Roberta (Shearer) Benjamin; a son, Daniel Benjamin, Jr., (Amy) of Niagara Falls; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Brandon and Brittny; sisters in law, Elaine Benjamin and Priscilla (Richard) Holstrom; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, John R. Benjamin, Jr.
Friends may call Friday after 6 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., where Funeral services will be held at 8 PM with Military Honors. The interment will be private in Acacia Park Cemetery.
