TONAWANDA —
Donald L. Holdaway, age 89, of Tonawanda, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Buffalo General Hospital. Born in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Thomas Holdaway and Margery (nee Powell) Holdaway Patterson and had been a lifelong resident of Tonawanda. An Army Veteran of WWII, the Korean War and the Cuban Conflict, he worked at Durez in North Tonawanda until retiring in 1983. Mr. Holdaway was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, serving on the Holy Name Committee and as an usher, and was a lifelong member of Niagara Hose Company.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothea (nee Coelho) Holdaway; ten children, Nora (Richard) McLaughlin, Kathleen Holdaway, Donald (Nancy) Holdaway, Beverly (David) Pizzi, Marilyn (Michael) DeLissio, Carol (Paul) Bartosz, David (Soni) Holdaway, Peter (Diane) Holdaway, Monica (Greg) Topol, and Jean (Joseph) Kamens; and a sister, Joanne Hutton. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Thursday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Broad Street in Tonawanda. Friends invited. Interment at White Chapel Memorial Park. If desired, memorials to St. Francis Church are preferred by the family.
