- John O. Thompson "J.O." of Lockport, husband of Joan (Payne) Thompson passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017. Born in Lockport on August 19, 1933. He was the son of the late Ralph and Irene (Shimer) Thompson.
J.O. served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on April 23, 1955. J.O. worked for General Motors as Administrator of Payroll and retired after 41 years of service. He served on the Royalton Hartland School Board for four years and Niagara Orleans BOCES Board for 20 years. J.O. was active with the Town of Lockport politics serving as councilman from 1993 to 1995; Town Supervisor from 1995 to 2000. He was a member of the Elks Club, Historical Society and a Mason. J.O. was an active gardener and enjoyed spending time with his children and their families in S.C. and F.L.
In addition to his wife, J.O. is survived by his two children, Tricia (Tracy) Lukanic and Christopher J. (Katharina) Thompson; granddaughter Hannah Lukanic; brothers William (Dorothy) Thompson and James (Paula) Thompson. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and a host of lifelong friends. J.O was predeceased by a brother, David Thompson and a sister-in-law Patricia Thompson.
There will be no prior visitation, A Memorial service will be held Monday, August 14th at 3:00 PM in Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 75 East Avenue, Lockport, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or Speak for Animals at speakforanimals.com.
